More information about sexual issues
Sexual disorders which both men and women can suffer with. These problems can range from sporadic to continuous dysfunction. The main categories of sexual dysfunction are disorders of:
- Desire
- Arousal
- Orgasm
- Pain
Sexual desire - is the reduction in sexual drive (aka low libido). This could be affecting the specific partner or indeed be a more generalized issue. Low libido may manifest itself gradually over time or, may always have been present. Factors that have an effect on sexual drive are increasing age, anxiety and the use of certain serotonin medicines.
Sexual arousal - which is also known as impotence or frigidity - in men arousal disorder may manifest itself as erectile dysfunction, and may only get a partial correction. Often in women the vagina may fail to become lubricated. People who suffer with an arousal problems may be averse to any contact sexually with a partner.
Orgasm - during sexual intercourse or masturbation, individuals may often completely fail to reach climax or too soon.
Sexual pain - usually sexual pain disorders are confined to women, usually caused by the lack of adequate lubrication of the vagina during sex. This can be caused by anxiety, lack of arousal but also by a condition called vaginismus, where the muscles of the vagina wall spasm involuntarily during intercourse. The exact cause is not fully understood but is suspected that sexual trauma can be the trigger. One sexual disorder in men is called priapism which is where the blood does not drain from the penis for hours after arousal.
How do begin to overcome my sexual issue?
There are number of reasons why sexual dysfunction manifests, and not all of them are in the mind. Illness, medications and creams, breastfeeding or menopause and hormonal changes that increase or decrease the levels of estrogen and testosterone can be to blame. My first advice is therefore to contact your general practitioner. However, should your GP confirmed that there is no physical reason then hypnotherapy can be extremely effective at treating sexual issues.
If you have been suffering with any of the above conditions contact me to see how hypnotherapy can help you to a normal sex life once again. The advantage of using hypnosis for sexual issues is that it may be used to treat an individual without their partner. Hypnotherapy is also extremely effective at reducing the trauma by those subjected to sexual abuse, rape and other forms of sexual PTSD.
